A long-established Mablethorpe coach company has relocated to a bigger site, freeing up a key location in the town centre, and allowing the long-established transport company to stay and grow in the area.
Grayscroft Coaches has made the move from its Victoria Road depot to new premises on Enterprise Road. The relocation has been facilitated by Connected Coast with government funding through the Towns Fund.
The project has been supported after early public engagement to shape the Towns Fund programme in Mablethorpe identified a desire to remove unnecessary congestion in the town centre, especially during peak season.
The relocation not only supports this aim, but it also ensures that the business – and the employment it creates – remain in the local area.
Through the project, ownership of Grayscroft’s previous depot has now transferred to East Lindsey District Council who are developing options for the former depot, including the potential for use that support mobility and connectivity around the town and beyond.
The first priority for the council is clearing the site to get it ready for a new use, with work taking place on this in the coming months.
Chris Baron, Chair, Connected Coast said: “Connected Coast has been pleased to support the relocation of Grayscroft Coaches and acquisition of the town centre site as this project brings a number of significant benefits.
“It allows a key plot of land in the town centre to be developed for a new use for the community, and it supports an important local business to grow in Mablethorpe.
“It is fantastic that the relocation and acquisition is now complete, and I look forward to seeing the Victoria Road land developed to meet local needs.”
Councillor Steve Kirk, East Lindsey District Council Portfolio Holder for Coastal Economy, said: “This project demonstrates our commitment to supporting local businesses to grow and thrive while creating new opportunities for regeneration in our town centres. By helping Grayscroft Coaches relocate to larger premises, we have enabled a well-established local employer to remain in Mablethorpe with the space it needs for future expansion, safeguarding jobs and supporting the local economy.
“At the same time, the transfer of the Victoria Road site to ELDC gives us the opportunity to explore how this important town centre location can best contribute to Mablethorpe’s future, supporting wider ambitions to strengthen connectivity, attract investment and enhance the town for residents and visitors alike.”
Ashley & Nigel Barker, Directors, Grayscroft Coaches said: “We’re really pleased to have been able to make the move to this new site, and we’re so grateful to Connected Coast and East Lindsey District Council for all their support.
“We are proud to be based in Mablethorpe and to be part of this community. Now, from our new bigger site, we have the space to grow and thrive.”
“Relocating to larger premises has been an aim of ours for many years now, however there has never been a viable and sustainable option. Thanks to the support of the Connected Coast and East Lindsey District Council, that dream has now become a reality. We are incredibly grateful for all the support we have received and now with larger, more suitable premises, we have the space to grow and thrive.”
Grayscroft’s new site on Enterprise Road not only enables the company to continue operating from Mablethorpe, but also paves the way for further expansion and more jobs, benefitting the local economy.
In addition, another local company – Rotaset Printers – has also been positively impacted as it has been able to move to more suitable premises due to relocating from Grayscroft’s new premises.
