East Lindsey District Council has responded to the announcement yesterday (Thursday 25 September) from Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government that Mablethorpe has been awarded £20 million of investment over the next decade.
Mablethorpe has been added to existing The Plan for Neighbourhoods Programme. This funding aims to put local people at the heart of decision-making, giving residents a direct say in how their town grows and develops over the coming years.
Mablethorpe now joins Skegness, Boston and Spalding as part of the government’s long-term renewal programme for Lincolnshire, which aims to bring communities together, whilst also driving regeneration and restoring local pride.
As part of the Government’s new Pride in Place programme, local councils are also set to be given new powers to reclaim community assets, take action against nuisance businesses and shape the future of their local high streets.
The new investment will join the existing £23.9 million Mablethorpe Towns Fund, which is already delivering projects such as the new Station Leisure and Learning Centre, the Campus for Future Living, and the Seaview Colonnade in Sutton on Sea.
There has been further significant funding secured throughout East Lindsey in recent years, including £24.5 million for the Skegness Towns Fund and £20 million long-term funding for Skegness, and £8.1 million for transformational culture and heritage projects in Alford and Spilsby.
Councillor Craig Leyland, Leader of East Lindsey District Council, said: “This is a huge boost for Mablethorpe and for East Lindsey as a whole. Securing £20 million over the next ten years provides the long-term certainty we need to deliver real change, with local people at the heart of decision-making.
“Together with the significant funding we have already attracted for Mablethorpe and Skegness previously, this is another major step towards building thriving, resilient communities across East Lindsey.
“We look forward to working out the finer details in the coming weeks, and then we can start our work with our residents and businesses to build stronger, more vibrant towns where people are proud to live, work and visit.”
Chris Baron, Chair of Connected Coast Board, said: “This announcement is fantastic news for Mablethorpe and represents a huge opportunity for the town.
“Over the last few years, Mablethorpe has benefitted from significant investment through the Towns Fund which has brought the new Station Leisure and Learning Centre and Campus for Future Living, amongst other projects.
“Now, there is the chance to build on the work that has already taken place and deliver even more improvements for the town, working in partnership with local people.”
