Skegness’ historic Tower Cinema is set to undergo external works that will transform its appearance.

The cinema, which has occupied a position on Lumley Road for over one hundred years, will benefit from refurbishment works to the outside of the building that will enhance its appeal and highlight the arcade that is also part of the property.

The significant external facelift is being supported by a grant through the Towns Fund programme of investment in Skegness which is overseen in the town by Connected Coast.

The works will focus on the repair of the wall of the building that faces Lumley Road and will include repointing, repair of the windows, and improvements to the entrance and canopy.

The revamp to the outside of the building complements an internal programme of investment, delivered and funded by owners Teen Spirit, that will ultimately improve the overall experience of the cinema.

Chris Baron, Chair, Connected Coast said: “Tower Cinema has been a mainstay of Skegness town centre for many years, providing entertainment for generations of families.

“We’re pleased to support these external improvements that will add to this much-loved venue’s appeal whilst retaining its character and presence on Lumley Road.

“The improvements to Tower Cinema reflect our commitment to investing in the town centre, a commitment which is borne out in the careful repair and refurbishment works to nearby buildings that have already taken place or are set to get underway.”

Charlton Cooper, Director of Teen Spirit Limited (owners and operators of The Tower Cinema and Arcade said): “Securing this Connected Coast funding marks an exciting moment for The Tower Cinema and Arcade. The building has been at the heart of Skegness for generations, and this support allows us to restore its facade with the care and quality it deserves.

“Our aim is to celebrate The Tower’s heritage whilst creating a more welcoming, vibrant experience for everyone who visits the Skegness and local residents alike.

“We’re very proud to play a part in the ongoing regeneration of the town and look forward to delivering improvements the whole community can enjoy.”

Other improvements carried out in the town centre funded through the Towns Fund include works to Alisons, 22 Lumley Road, 11 High Street, and 124-132 Lumley Road which is opposite Tower Cinema.  A further three schemes supported by Connected Coast through the Towns Fund are set to get on site and will be delivered this winter.
